Naming bottle

Two things came my way and helped me name a ship and its captain:

One, my own personal moon (with appropriate thanks to sender).

Two, a letter that Ivor Cutler wrote in reply to a fan letter. I found it on a blog and have copied it here because it was so buried on the other site:

"In 1972, when I was three, I wrote a fan-letter to Ivor Cutler (with a little help from my mum) and got a lovely letter back from him. I still have it. It says:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND LETTER. I HOPE YOUR MUM IS LIKE MRS MACHERBERT [the main character in Meal One]. MY MUM HAS THE SAME SHAPE, BUT NEVER HIDES UNDER THE BED.

FOR YOUR WONDER, I ENCLOSE:
5 LOVE HEARTS
10 SAYINGS
HALF A BUTTERFLY'S WINGS
1 GOLDEN MIRROR
1 GERMAN COIN
3 DELICATE SHELLS
1 SAPONELLA SEED (WHiCH YOU MAY PLANT)
2 JAGGY BONES
1 CANNON BALL (AS USED BY MICE IN BATTLE)
5 MIDDLE-CLASS ANGELS
1 RED RUBY (WHICH I KISSED)

I HOPE YOUR DAD IS LIKE MRS MACHERBERT TOO.

LOVE

IVOR CUTLER

My first introduction to English surrealism! Thank you, Ivor, wherever you are.

I'd probably say Scottish surrealism, or at least British, and I probably wouldn't call it surrealism either but never mind.

I am searching for that book Meal One (it's about breakfast) by Ivor Cutler and Helen Oxenbury. I thought that I had come to Ivor Cutler late in life, but recently found out that this was one of my first and favourite books. I can't recall it at all, and would dearly like to see it. Does anyone have a copy? It can be had for a fair sum, secondhand from Amazon. I just noticed that Claudio Munoz illustrated some of his books too, and I know his daughter, so perhaps I can ask him. Or even Helen Oxenbury herself, since I do run into her very occasionally. In fact, hang on. I am published by the publisher, maybe that's where my search should begin...

And before we all take hime for a softy, Ivor's sayings tended to be in the manner of:"True happiness is knowing you're a hypocrite" or "Changing your pants is like taking a clean plate."

hi there,
I think there are a few copies for sale through the AbeBooks website, if you are keen to buy.
Just out of an insatiable curiosity: if you occasionally run into Helen Oxenbury, have you ever met John Burningham, too?

Thanks, I'll have a look.

And yes, a couple of times I think. But I've never spoken to either for long.
