Weekend's work

A few pictures from my adventures in Cardiff on fri/sat. As I mentioned before, the project was to do with Roald Dahl day, though my involvement was a day late (and the info on that site is out of date in the other direction).

I think that I am pleased with the painting for the window. I dreaded to open the photograph, since I had many wishes about having painted more relaxedly and freely, but I think it is fine. Especially since my 'glamorous assistant' and I had to rush in a different way in order to escape Cardiff on the last train available before world cup rugby fans raged from the stadium and onto the rails...

The one-off cover design that I have done may be one of the prizes given in the next few months to children who are sending in their own. There is a website for that but I can't find it just now.

How much is that scraggy bearded oaf in the window

What with the house so full of comings and goings of one sort and another, I mightn't have the chance to say this later, but I will be in Cardiff during the day on Saturday, at the Waterstone's bookshop painting a two metre high (!) window display for Roald Dahl day.

All this Welsh blood I have, and I've never been to Cardiff before...

Come along and see! I shall be absolutely in control and not in the least bit worried about the whole thing, obviously.

Certain slants

Such a beautiful day! Impossibly! I walked for a while, to get some brushes and things for Saturday, and lost count of all the cats conspiratorially slinking from one sun spot to another.

Also I saw a two men wheeling a full coffin along the street and a dead puppy in the canal, but still the day is beautiful (what a picture I'm painting). This weather gift, given on a fraught day in other respects, makes me wish I could rewind the whole summer and spend it down in Cornwall. Or Italy.

Amazing Morning

After a gloomy night.

(The spamming seems to have abated a bit too).

"thank-you for your e-mail to loving ferrets."

Wow, I just got 746 spam messages, mostly of the returned-message-I-didn't-send-variety (including the above gem). I shall have to finally work out how to delete that catchall mailbox from my website. If you send something over the next few days and you don't get the response you feel you deserve, then the explanation might lie with this... although proper messages are mostly making it through.

Grump

It's an emptying-house, slug-in-the-bathroom, very-expensive-string-snapping, Rowan-leaving (good-luck-in-Sweden-wishing), cold-in-the-throat-having, panic-over-manuscript-changing, sleepless-night-grumping, grey, muggy, cloudy morning. And I say arse to it and other swearwords and hold out hopes for a different sort of afternoon altogether.
